Prayer idea - NT: Parable of the Good Samaritan - Band-aid prayers

An easy-to-do creative prayer activity based on the parable of the Good Samaritan

In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, we learn about the importance of helping those in need. Sometimes we can't physically help someone, but we can still pray for them. Today, we're going to pray for those who need support, help and healing.

This idea is part of a comprehensive Sunday school lesson focusing on Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan, as recounted in Luke 10: 30-37.

Let's start...

Instructions

Begin by explaining to the children the importance of praying for those in need, just like the Good Samaritan helped the wounded man.

Give each child a medical plaster and a pen or marker.

Ask the children to think of someone they know who needs healing, whether it's physical or emotional.

Have the children write their prayer for that person on the medical plaster.

Once they are finished, ask the children to come up and stick their medical plaster on the large print out of the word "HELP", creating a collage of healing prayers.

After everyone has had a chance to add their prayer, gather the children in a circle around the print out.

Lead the children in a prayer, asking God to bring healing to those who need it and to help us be like the Good Samaritan, always ready to help those in need.

Encourage the children to take the medical plaster home with them as a reminder to continue praying for those in need of healing.

Variations

Instead of a print out of the word "HELP", you could use a picture of a person or a heart.

You could also have the children write down their prayers on small slips of paper and then stick them on the large print out.

To make the activity more interactive, you could have the children take turns sharing who they are praying for and why.
