Rahab is an innkeeper or prostitute who has a house in the wall of the city of Jericho. She hides two spies on her roof and helps them escape. Rahab is given a red rope or scarlet cord by the spies. At the fall of Jericho, she and her family remain protected. Rahab becomes part of the people of Israel and an ancestor of Jesus.
