Jesus tells his disciples that he is deeply distressed and asks them to stay and keep watch while he prays. Jesus goes off alone and prays to God, asking if it is possible for him to avoid the suffering that he knows is coming. Jesus prays intensely and even sweats blood as he submits to God's will. When Jesus returns to his disciples, he finds that they have fallen asleep. This story shows Jesus' deep agony and his willingness to submit to God's plan for him, even in the face of great suffering.
