What you need:

  • snack station with small portions of bread, cheese, and fruit
  • plates, napkins, and utensils
  • a simple tent or fort-like structure (e.g., made from sheets, blankets, or a small pop-up tent)
  • pillows and blankets
  • battery-operated lantern
  • optional: costumes or props related to the Bible story

Let's start...

Instructions

Set up the snack station with small portions of bread, cheese, and fruit on plates, along with napkins and utensils.

Create a simple tent or fort-like structure in the Sunday School room using sheets, blankets, or a small pop-up tent. Place pillows, blankets, and a battery-operated lantern inside the tent to make it comfortable and inviting.

As children arrive, invite them to participate in the hospitality snack time by taking turns playing the roles of Abraham, Sarah, and the guests. Encourage them to serve one another snacks while saying a simple prayer of gratitude for the food and company.

After the children have participated in the snack activity, they can go to the tent. Have them take turns entering the tent and pretending to be Abraham, Sarah, and the angelic visitors, discussing the promise God made to them.

Conclusion

This walk-in activity provides a welcoming and engaging experience for children arriving early to Sunday school.  By participating in these activities, children learn the importance of hospitality and sharing, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the story of Abraham and Sarah in Genesis 18:1-15.

As children transition from the walk-in activities to the main lesson, they will be better prepared to discuss and reflect on the Bible story.
