Video - NT: Easter 01 - Palm Sunday 1: 4 kids, 1 plane
Use this secular Youtube video to hold a creative discussion on Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey
A YouTube video called ‘Four kids, one plane’ provides a fun way to reflect on the Bible story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey at Palm Sunday. 4 kids, 1 plane is a Turkish Airlines advertisement video.
The video, titled "4 Kids, 1 Plane," tells the story of four children living in a remote village in Turkey who dream of seeing a plane land in their valley.
The children build a makeshift runway out of stones and dirt, and they even carve the word "Airport" into a nearby hillside. They continue to watch the sky in anticipation, but no planes ever come.
Undeterred, the children persist in their efforts to attract a plane to their valley. They work tirelessly to improve their runway, eventually adding lights and a control tower made out of wood.
Finally, after a long time of waiting and preparation, the children witness a real plane flying low over their heads and landing on a newly constructed runway just outside their valley. The children excitedly run to the airport and watch in awe as passengers disembark from the plane when the pilots salute them.
This activity is part of a complete Sunday school programme on the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem in Luke 19:28-40
Why is this video relevant to today's Bible story?
In the story of Palm Sunday, Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey, and the people of the city lay down palm branches and cloaks in front of him as a sign of honour and respect. This event is seen as a triumphal entry into the city, with the people celebrating Jesus as their king and saviour.
Similarly, in the video, the children work tirelessly to prepare a runway for a plane to land in their valley. When the plane finally does arrive, they are overjoyed and celebrate its arrival, just as the people in Jerusalem celebrated the arrival of Jesus on Palm Sunday.
Another connection between the two stories is the theme of perseverance and determination. In the story of Palm Sunday, Jesus perseveres in his mission despite facing opposition and ultimately sacrifices his life for the salvation of humanity. Similarly, the children in the video demonstrate great perseverance and determination in building their runway, and their hard work ultimately pays off when the plane finally arrives.
Both stories also highlight the importance of faith and hope. In the Bible story, the people of Jerusalem have faith in Jesus as their king and saviour, while the children in video have faith that a plane will one day arrive in their valley. Their hope and faith are rewarded in the end.
It is important to always watch the video yourself beforehand and ask yourself:
- Do I want to show this to the children?
- Does this video fit within the context and age group of the children I am working with?
