Silas was a companion of Paul during his second missionary journey. He is first mentioned in Acts 15:22 when he and Judas Barsabbas were chosen to deliver the letter from the apostles and elders in Jerusalem to the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia. Silas later joined Paul on his missionary journey to Macedonia and Greece, during which they were imprisoned and flogged in Philippi. Silas is also mentioned in the epistles, where he is referred to as Silvanus. He is believed to have been a Roman citizen and a prophet in the early Christian church.
