Bible story: The burial of Jesus

Creative activities based on the Bible story of The burial of Jesus

The Bible story in Matthew 27: 57 - 66, Mark 15: 42 - 16:1, Luke 23: 50 - 56 en John 19: 38 - 42 of the burial of Jesus tells of the aftermath of his crucifixion and the careful and respectful way in which his body was treated. After Jesus breathed his last breath on the cross, Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy and devout follower of Jesus, went to Pilate and requested permission to take Jesus' body down from the cross.

Joseph and another disciple, Nicodemus, prepared Jesus' body for burial, wrapping it in linen and spices. They placed Jesus' body in a tomb carved out of rock, rolling a large stone over the entrance. Jesus' mother, Mary, and other women who had followed Jesus watched as he was laid to rest.
