471. The story of Barabbas and Jesus

A great story to tell about the power of Easter

"Barabbas was listening hard.  The crowd went quiet and he could hear a man's voice speaking.  The next thing he heard was a great shout "BARABBAS, BARABBAS, WE WANT BARABBAS!"  (Get the children to shout it out, really loudly).  "Wonderful!"  thought Barabbas. "It must be my mates, come to get me out of prison!"  He began to feel much more cheerful.  But then the crowd went quiet again, and again the man spoke.  He couldn't hear Pilate's words, but Pilate was asking "What do you want me to do with Jesus?"

402. Use the Dean's Box gospel illusion to preach the gospel in the open air

This is a brilliant illusion that will help you proclaim the gospel everywhere

In my younger days I worked as a street preacher. I wish I had the Dean’s box magic trick when I preached in the open air. It is a superb tool to proclaim the gospel. I bought mine very cheaply through Alibaba Express. The only problem was that it didn’t come with any explanation as to how the trick works. If you choose yours through Alibaba Express you can send me an email and I will send you a video in which I explain how the trick works. It looks great and it is very easy to do!

Deans Box2

Ask two people to come forward as volunteers. Give them each a coloured rope to inspect. The yellow rope symbolises God The red rope symbolises mankind The red wooden box symbolises coming home with God.

The good news is: people can return to God!

Deans Box

But how is this possible?

To explain this you need an energy stick from idea 198. You ask your two volunteers to take hold of the silver ending on the energy stick with one hand. Ask if you are allowed to touch their noses and when you do the energy stick will come alive. This will give a laugh. Especially when they are allowed to touch your nose with their other hand. You explain how the energy stick works with a small current of electricity that we cannot see or feel, but flows through us. It connects us. This is the same with Jesus. You cannot see or feel him, but he connects us with God.

Put the ropes back in the box, tie them on the top to the energy stick, pull the ropes and they are back together again. Amazing!

Deans Box1

Make sure your two volunteers get a big round of applause before they leave.

You can use this idea in a:

street evangelism, church service, open air evangelism

Ask two children to come forward as volunteers. Give them each a coloured rope to inspect. The yellow rope symbolises the father The red rope symbolises the son The red wooden box symbolises the house of the father.

The father reconciles himself with his son and they are united! The ropes are stuck together.

400. Flip about Bible button - Gospel Magic Illusion

Multiple changes, magical moments and a memorable message!

You show a large picture of a golden city and asks the children or congregation to guess what it could be. It’s the kingdom of heaven, but we may often feel like we’re not good enough to get into heaven. This is because of sin in our heart…and as he says this, the card flips open and change into a black heart.

flip about contents

But despite having bad thoughts, saying and doing bad things, we have can be forgiven because Jesus died on the cross for us. At this point, the card is flipped open and transforms into a white cross on a red background.

Jesus died for us, so that our hearts could be made clean. The card now turns into a white heart on a green background.

With a clean slate, we grow in our relationship with God and ultimately can enter the kingdom of heaven. And finally the card changes back to the image of heaven (and you’re now reset to perform it the next time too!)

Tell the Bible story of the three Magi and their expensive presents

Link this with the price we may have to pay for following Jesus or you can use this story to teach on worshipping God. What do we offer God when we worship Him?

Paul writes in Romans 12: 1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship."

Invite a few children to come forward. Ask them to stand in a circle and hold hands. Take the energy stick in your right hand and take the hand of the child on your left. Leave the circle 'open' by not taking the hand of the child on your right. Then ask the child on your right to also take hold of the other end (the silver end) of the energy stick. When they do this, something amazing happens. Lights go on and you hear a funny noise. What's happening?

There is a small current that you don’t feel and that you can’t see. This current flows through the whole circle as long as everyone is holding hands. It connects through the circle of hands to the other side of the energy stick and then the electrical circuit is complete.

But how can use this in different ways within your kids ministry?

161. Saul becomes Paul on the Damascus Road

“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"

Saul was so determined to stamp out this idea, that when he heard there was another group of Jesus' friends spreading the same rumour in Damascus, he set off down the road from Jerusalem to Damascus to deal with it once and for all.  He was nearly there when suddenly out of the blue he was stopped in his tracks by a brilliant white light!   He  fell to the ground (act it out) .   He heard a voice speaking to him out of the light saying "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? "

"Who are you, Lord?" he asked.

"I am Jesus! Get up, and go into the city, and you will be told what to do next!".  His friends were speechless - they could hear the sound, but they couldn't see anyone.

160. What's your idea of Heaven?

Heaven is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace and love

Winning the lottery?  Christmas?  Presents?  Loads to eat and drink, chocolate coming out of our ears, nothing else to do but watch TV? Apparently most people who win the lottery have got through the lot within a year, ending up with broken marriages, no friends, no job, and very unhappy.

123. The story of the prisoner Barabbas

Introduction:

111. Probably the best object lesson on faith

Use this powerful object lesson to demonstrate what it means to have faith

You take an seemingly empty cup. You fill the cup with water. When you turn the cup upside down, no water comes out.

How can this be? It is not because of the cup, but because of what is in the cup. It is a very easy Gospel magic trick that we will explain below.

best object lesson on faith

Why call it gospel magic, and not just a trick?

Because you can use this trick to explain to children, teenagers and adults what it means to have faith:

You ask a child, teenager or adult to sit on a chair. You fill the cup with water and you promise them that you will turn the cup over above their heads, but that no water will come out. They don't even have to blink their eyes. Can they trust you? It is hard to trust when everything inside you screams the opposite.

This is what faith is.

You can combine this trick with stories in the Bible where people had to show great faith before the miracle happened.  Stories like the building of the ark, Abram sacrificing his son, Moses in front of the Red Sea, the fall of Jericho, etc, etc.

Themes:

Trusting, having faith, unbelief, doubt

101. The 'Kezazah ceremony'

Introduction:
Have you ever heard about the 'Kezazah' ceremony'? This ceremony was perfomed when a Jewish man left the community, went and lived with the Gentiles, and lost his wealth. When he came back, he would go to the city gates and the older men would throw down a pot in front of the young man - symbolising the broken relationship that now existed between the community and this 'sinner.' This separated him from his family, his community, and his faith.

When you know the background behind the story of the prodigal son, this story and the role of the father take on a complete new meaning. In the video below we explain what the kezazah ceremony entailed and how you can use this when you preach about the grace of God and/or tell the story of the prodigal son.

87. JOY: Life's priorities - Gospel Magic

Introduction:
Another great way to use the Joker Tube / Stratosphere magic trick is for the following gospel presentation:

"The children's worker discusses life's priorities, and how it should be that you think of YOURSELF last (the letter Y), then OTHERS (letter O) and JESUS (letter J) first and foremost, as our top priority (red to represent the blood of Christ) This of course spells JOY. We may start with good intentions, but what often happens is we lose our way, we make mistakes and get sidetracked. As you explain this, you re-cap the letters and put the balls in the tube - green, yellow, then red. But when you take off the cover...everything is topsy turvy! We've forgotten the top priority in life, and pushed Jesus to the bottom. But when we are at rock bottom, it's Jesus who can lift us up again.

Remove the red ball, then explain that there are Christians who go to church (show wooden box, drop red ball inside) but who are really leading empty lives (open the box to show it has vanished) Going to church is important, but to really connect with God, we need to remember our priorities... putting Yourself last, then Others, then Jesus (reveal tube again, showing the red ball has returned on top of the other two, all in the correct order! To really experience the JOY of God's love, we need to put Jesus first."

When you read this for the first time, it may sounds very complicated. But to be honest it is a very easy trick and presentation which enables you to explain the gospel in a school assembly, during a preach, as a children's moment in a church, etc.
