A funny short video about doing things that are bad for us and the effects
A powerful short story about being stuck on the road to destruction. We all sometimes keep on doing things that are bad for us, bad for other people, things that even go against God. We know we will need to stop one day, but today is not that day. And so we go on...
In idea 217 we show you how you can use this video as:
- a short introduction to a Bible story, a Sunday school lesson, a RE lesson
- a longer reflection on certain Bible stories and /or Biblical themes
Jesus weeping over Jerusalem
Watching this video made me think about Jesus weeping over Jerusalem: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!" Matthew 23: 37
The Jerusalem that Jesus knew, was like the knitting lady, hurtling down the mountain into the abyss of destruction.
But of course you can also compare this video with the behaviour of the people of Israel all through the period of the Judges: God gives them a good leader. The leader dies. They go back to their old ways and fall into the abyss. They pray to God. God sends a new Judge. They behave for a while until that leader dies and off they go again.
You can also apply it to the period of the kings. Good king; the people follow God. Bad king: off they go hurtling down the cliff. Even falling in the enormous abbys of exile to Babylon didn't cure them of constantly wanting to go against the Law of God.
Repetitive destructive behaviour, addiction, the wages of sin, going against God's law
