Are you looking for gospel illusions or gospel magic tricks?

You don’t have to be a Christian magician to use gospel illusions or gospel magic tricks within your children’s ministry or Sunday school lessons.

Gospel illusions are a great way to teach children, teenagers and adults Biblical lessons. They not only create a ‘Wow!’ moment, but if you use them to teach spiritual truths, they will also create an ‘Aha!’ moment. For me that is the most important moment, because through the trick the lesson has landed. Through the illusions the Biblical truth has been understood!

Here on the site you’ll find more than seventy gospel magic ideas or routines. And the good news is, this number will keep on growing in the coming years!

We won't usually explain to you how a trick works, but... we will show you where you can buy it. All tricks come with very good explanations as to how to use them. If there's anything you don't understand you can always get in touch with us.

You can use all our ideas for gospel illusions for free. The only thing we ask of you is to become a free member. This will only take you a minute and will give you full access to all the ideas.

180. Who may belong to God's family? - the Magic Umbrella

Introduction:
This is a brilliant magic trick, that can help you to teach children, teenagers and adults on the question: 'Who may belong to God's family?' It can also help you to teach on the diversty within the body of Christ:

Unity and Diversity in the Body:
"Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many."  1 Corinthians 12: 12 - 14

179. Teaching on self-esteem and showing your talents - the Magic Umbrella

Introduction:
This is probably one of my favourite magic tricks. I currently use it as an ending to two of my christian children theatre shows. I like it because it is so easy, but it always gives a 'wow' effect.

You take the red umbrella out of the tube. When you open the umbrella you can show that it is a normal one. You close the umbrella and put it back into the tube. Show eight several coloured silks to the audience. Then, put them into a bag, and suddenly the bag changes into the top of the umbrella and all the silks have disappeared. Pick up the tube and pull the umbrella out. Now the top has been disappeared and instead of the top, the eight silks are hanging on the umbrella.

Introduction:
How can you combine teaching about the importance of developing your talents with a empty metal vase with which you can pour water again and again?

That is a good question! I will show you the answer underneath, but let me first introduce you to the Lota Vase.

This is not just a magic trick. This is a powerful tool that will help you explain Biblical truths in a new and visual way. In the video below I will demonstrate how you can teach on the parable of the talents using the Lota Vase.

“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more.  So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money."

Introduction:
You show a large silver bowl that is empty. When you turn it upside down nothing comes out. When you pick it up again and start tip it up, water will pour out of it!

Something from nothing, liquid from mid-air! This can be repeated again and again, with the vase continually filling with water.

Being able to produce water from nothing time after time makes this trick ideal for telling different Bible stories, such as:
- Moses getting water from a rock (Num 20:11)
- the widow's endless jar of oil  (2 Kings 4:4)
- Jesus being baptised (Matt 3:13).

It is an ideal object lesson for baptisms.

You can also colour the water with red food dye and use it to symbolise the blood of Jesus that was shed for all.

111. Probably the best object lesson on faith

Use this powerful object lesson to demonstrate what it means to have faith

You take an seemingly empty cup. You fill the cup with water. When you turn the cup upside down, no water comes out.

How can this be? It is not because of the cup, but because of what is in the cup. It is a very easy Gospel magic trick that we will explain below.

best object lesson on faith

Why call it gospel magic, and not just a trick?

Because you can use this trick to explain to children, teenagers and adults what it means to have faith:

You ask a child, teenager or adult to sit on a chair. You fill the cup with water and you promise them that you will turn the cup over above their heads, but that no water will come out. They don't even have to blink their eyes. Can they trust you? It is hard to trust when everything inside you screams the opposite.

This is what faith is.

You can combine this trick with stories in the Bible where people had to show great faith before the miracle happened.  Stories like the building of the ark, Abram sacrificing his son, Moses in front of the Red Sea, the fall of Jericho, etc, etc.

Themes:

Trusting, having faith, unbelief, doubt

Do you want to learn how it works? Look below...

87. JOY: Life's priorities - Gospel Magic

Introduction:
Another great way to use the Joker Tube / Stratosphere magic trick is for the following gospel presentation:

"The children's worker discusses life's priorities, and how it should be that you think of YOURSELF last (the letter Y), then OTHERS (letter O) and JESUS (letter J) first and foremost, as our top priority (red to represent the blood of Christ) This of course spells JOY. We may start with good intentions, but what often happens is we lose our way, we make mistakes and get sidetracked. As you explain this, you re-cap the letters and put the balls in the tube - green, yellow, then red. But when you take off the cover...everything is topsy turvy! We've forgotten the top priority in life, and pushed Jesus to the bottom. But when we are at rock bottom, it's Jesus who can lift us up again.

Remove the red ball, then explain that there are Christians who go to church (show wooden box, drop red ball inside) but who are really leading empty lives (open the box to show it has vanished) Going to church is important, but to really connect with God, we need to remember our priorities... putting Yourself last, then Others, then Jesus (reveal tube again, showing the red ball has returned on top of the other two, all in the correct order! To really experience the JOY of God's love, we need to put Jesus first."

When you read this for the first time, it may sounds very complicated. But to be honest it is a very easy trick and presentation which enables you to explain the gospel in a school assembly, during a preach, as a children's moment in a church, etc.
JOY Lifes priorities

86. Noah releases the birds - Gospel Magic

Introduction:
Noah has been in the ark with all the animals for a long time. First he releases a raven, and it keeps flying back and forth until the water has dried up. Then Noah sends out a dove to see if the water has receded. But the dove can't find anywhere to perch because there is still water everywhere, so it returns to Noah in the ark. Noah waits seven more days and then sends out the dove from the ark again. When the dove returns to him in the evening, there in its beak is a freshly plucked olive leaf!

What a wonderful, but also a well known story. How can you illustrate it? How can you make the storytelling visual?

82. Bible Colouring Book - Gospel Magic

Introduction:
This is a must-have for any Christian children's worker or preacher. It is a great introduction to any Bible story or preach. You can use this for any school assembly, RE lesson, Sunday school, children's moment in church or in any preach or telling of a Bible story. It looks amazing, but it is so easy to do!

You show a Bible colouring book and all its pages are blank. When you explain that the Bible is not an empty book, but full of stories about God and His people suddenly pictures appear in the book, outlined in black. But the Bible isn't just a book full of stories. it is God's Word and when we study the Bible all these stories come alive. With audience participation the preacher or children's worker colours the pictures - as if by magic. Now bright, vibrant colours have filled in the black and white pictures!

If we don't listen carefully to God's Word, before we know it, this happens...
For a fitting finale, all the pages change back to their original state - blank!

You can use this to show the importance of the Bible before you tell any Bible story or before you start your preach.
