519. The story of Job and his unfornate wife – a Gospel Magic routine

Did you know that you can use a candle to make salt appear out of nowhere?

This is a fun object lesson / Gospel magic routine by Rick Lenski based on the Visible Candle to Salt magic trick.  If you have never see this trick in action, you can watch a random demonstration video here. You can buy this magic trick here through Amazon.

Rick Lenski has created a routine on the Bible story of Lot in Genesis 19. It looks at Lot's family being the light in Sodom.

"Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name." - Psalm 91: 14

salt pillar

What do you need?

- the Visible Candle to Salt magic trick
- matches

The object lesson / the routine

The Lord and two angels made a visit to Abraham.  It was during this visit that Abraham was told of the future birth of his son Isaac.  He was also told about the impending destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Not only would the cities be destroyed, but Abraham’s relatives would be killed too.

Abraham had to plead for their lives.  He had to intervene, so he asked the Lord if he would spare the city if fifty righteous people were found in it.  God said, yes He would indeed spare the city for fifty righteous people.  Abraham continued, how about forty-five?  how about forty? Then he got to thirty, then twenty and finally ten.

518. Is being the light of the world the same as being the salt of the earth?

Being the light and the salt of the earth – a Gospel Magic routine

Did you know that you can use a candle to make salt appear out of nowhere? It is called the Visible Candle to Salt magic trick and it is very easy to do!

If you have never seen the Visible Candle to Salt magic trick in action, you can watch a random demonstration video below.

You can buy this magic trick here through Amazon.

Needed:

- the Visible Candle to Salt magic trick
- an empty salt shaker

candle

The object lesson / the routine

Jesus tells his disciples that they are the light of the world.

Light the candle

Read the text aloud: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5: 14 – 16)

517. The wise men come to worship the King – a Gospel Magic routine

This object lesson can be used to tell the Christmas story or to introduce a lesson on the wise men.

This is a fun object lesson / Gospel magic routine by Rick Lenski based on the Silk Blow Magic Trick. If you have never see this trick in action, you can watch a random demonstration video below. You can buy this magic trick here through Ebay and here through Amazon.

This object lesson can be used in conjunction with other material to tell the Christmas story or to introduce a lesson on the wise men.

“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.”  (Matthew 2:11)

What do you need?

- a trick called “Silk Blow”
- three 9" or 12" silks

silks

Set-up

This trick is purchased without the silks - you have to buy them separately.  It is a clear tube, and you put the silks into one at a time. You blow on one end of the tube and they come out the other end tied together. No special setup required, just follow the instructions on the trick.

The object lesson / the routine

We often see three wise men or Magi when we see a nativity scene but the bible never specifically said there were three.  We really don’t know how many there were.  We will use these three pieces of cloth to represent the wise men, no matter how many there were.  What we do know about them is that they were lead from a land in the east by a star.  They came to Jerusalem and asked King Herod, “Where is the one born King of the Jews?”

516. The story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal - a Gospel Magic routine

Fire from Heaven with the use of flash paper

This is a fun object lesson / Gospel magic routine by Rick Lenski based on the flash paper nagic trick. If you have never see flash paper in action, you can watch a random demonstration video below. You can buy it here through Ebay and here through Amazon.

“Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised.” (I Kings 18:17 & Psalm 145:3)

Needed:

- flash paper (approximately 8"X 9")
- sheet of typing paper with the Bible verse Psalm 145:3 printed on it
- fake bricks, rocks or imaginary building materials.
- a pitcher of confetti or streamers
- small sticks (I use Popsicle sticks)
- matches
-  I use a small carton that makes a mooing sound, like a cow, for fun.

Set-up:

Take the typing paper with the verse as found in Psalm 145:3 and fold it up tightly into a small three inch square.  Hide this in a pocket or area where you can pick it up without being noticed.  The fake brick, stone or imaginary building materials will be for a volunteer to build an altar.  Fill the pitcher with confetti or streamers.  This will be poured onto the altar and the child just as Elijah drenched the altar three times.  Handle the pitcher so it appears to really have water in it.

flames

DANGER:

Flash paper is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE and MUST be used with caution.  Practice with it.  Author assumes no liability for the use and/or misuse of flash paper.

The object lesson / the routine

Today we are going to learn about a prophet whose name was Elijah.  Elijah was a man who loved and followed the Lord.  I need a volunteer to help me.  Who will be my Elijah?

Select a volunteer and after you ask them their name, say I asked for an Elijah, you are not Elijah.  Well from now on your name is Elijah.

Elijah, you were sent to see Ahab, the king of Israel, by God.  Your job was to straighten out King Ahab and the people of Israel.  They were not worshipping the one true God but a false god named “Baal.”  Now you, Elijah, confronted King Ahab and challenged his prophets to a test.  This test would prove which god is the right and real God.  Is it the Lord? Or is it Baal? OK, Elijah, tell them what happened.

515. The Good Samaritan and the Square Circle trick

God will give back to you more, much more, than you could ever give to Him

This is a fun object lesson / Gospel magic routine by Rick Lenski based on the Square Circle Magic Trick. If you have never see this trick in action, you can watch a random demonstration video below. You can buy this magic trick here through Ebay and here through Amazon.

In this idea we will use the Square Circle Magic Trick (or a change bag) to look at the story of the Good Samaritan and the theme of sharing.

“Give and it will be given to you, a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38 & Luke 10:30-37)

Needed:

- Square circle magic trick or a change bag
- one small bag of M&M candy
- one large bag of M&M candy

MM

The size or the square circle or change bag you will be using will determine the size of the large bag of candy.

Note: I combine the above verses to teach our class about sharing (giving and receiving).  After reading the story about the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) and the verse in Luke 6:38, we use the following message to reinforce the lesson.

The object lesson

At this time the square circle is put out for use.

Everybody likes candy.  I do. This is my candy store, but there is one small problem with it.  It’s empty!  But don’t fear, here comes my delivery truck.

Bring the insert for the square circle, with both bags of candy inside, and put it into the square and produce the small bag of bag of candy.

Now we have a candy store filled with candy and an empty delivery truck.

402. Use the Dean's Box gospel illusion to preach the gospel in the open air

This is a brilliant illusion that will help you proclaim the gospel everywhere

In my younger days I worked as a street preacher. I wish I had the Dean’s box magic trick when I preached in the open air. It is a superb tool to proclaim the gospel. I bought mine very cheaply through Alibaba Express. The only problem was that it didn’t come with any explanation as to how the trick works. If you choose yours through Alibaba Express you can send me an email and I will send you a video in which I explain how the trick works. It looks great and it is very easy to do!

Deans Box2

Ask two people to come forward as volunteers. Give them each a coloured rope to inspect. The yellow rope symbolises God The red rope symbolises mankind The red wooden box symbolises coming home with God.

The good news is: people can return to God!

Deans Box

But how is this possible?

To explain this you need an energy stick from idea 198. You ask your two volunteers to take hold of the silver ending on the energy stick with one hand. Ask if you are allowed to touch their noses and when you do the energy stick will come alive. This will give a laugh. Especially when they are allowed to touch your nose with their other hand. You explain how the energy stick works with a small current of electricity that we cannot see or feel, but flows through us. It connects us. This is the same with Jesus. You cannot see or feel him, but he connects us with God.

Put the ropes back in the box, tie them on the top to the energy stick, pull the ropes and they are back together again. Amazing!

Deans Box1

Make sure your two volunteers get a big round of applause before they leave.

You can use this idea in a:

street evangelism, church service, open air evangelism

400. Flip about Bible button - Gospel Magic Illusion

Multiple changes, magical moments and a memorable message!

You show a large picture of a golden city and asks the children or congregation to guess what it could be. It’s the kingdom of heaven, but we may often feel like we’re not good enough to get into heaven. This is because of sin in our heart…and as he says this, the card flips open and change into a black heart.

flip about contents

But despite having bad thoughts, saying and doing bad things, we have can be forgiven because Jesus died on the cross for us. At this point, the card is flipped open and transforms into a white cross on a red background.

Jesus died for us, so that our hearts could be made clean. The card now turns into a white heart on a green background.

With a clean slate, we grow in our relationship with God and ultimately can enter the kingdom of heaven. And finally the card changes back to the image of heaven (and you’re now reset to perform it the next time too!)

332. Who is welcome in the stable - part 20 of the Christmas show that you can do!

A fun final act that will make people leave with a smile on their faces

This is probably one of my favourite magic tricks. I currently use it as an ending to two of my Christian children's theatre shows. I like it because it is so easy, but it always gives a 'wow' effect.

Take the red umbrella out of the tube. When you open the umbrella you can show that it is a normal one. You close the umbrella and put it back into the tube. Now show eight different coloured silks to the audience. Then put them into a bag, and suddenly the bag changes into the top of the umbrella and all the silks have disappeared. Pick up the tube and pull the umbrella out. Now the top has been disappeared and instead of the top, the eight silks are hanging on the umbrella.

In your Christmas show you use this trick to answer the question: Who is welcome in the stable? Who can find a place of refuge with Jesus?

You can buy your copy of the Magic Umbrella Deluxe through the site of Dynamite Magic.

Don't forget – any children’s worker can do this! It only needs a little bit of practice. So give it a try!

330. Explaining the meaning of the cross - part 18 of the Christmas show that you can do!

How to use the iodine and sodium thiosulfate reaction to teach about Jesus being the Light of the world

In the video below I show you how you can end the Christmas show by explaining the meaning of the cross at the centre of the Christmas puzzle. Talk about Isaiah 9:2 "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned."

chemical cross

Talk about the darkness in the time that Jesus was born. The poverty, the suppression by the Romans, God's silence for more than four hundred years. You then create a darkness in a vase full of water. Then by using the Chemical Cross trick light arrives and the darkness disappears.. It is another version of the iodine and sodium thiosulfate reaction, but this time you use a cross to make the water totally clean again. You can buy the Chemical Cross set through the site of Mission Magic

328. A celebration in the stable - part 16 of the Christmas show that you can do!

A spectacular act that is so easy to do it will surprise you!

The following act is all about the Magi arriving at the stable and giving their presents to Joseph and Mary. It is educational, fun and spectacular with some magic fire at the end of the act. And you know what? You can do this too. It is so easy...

kettle

The Magi arrived in Bethlehem and saw Jesus. They worshipped him and give him their presents. To demonstrate the giving of these three presents you use The Incredible Kettle and pour water in the first glass. Somewhere during the pouring the water turns red.

Who knows what the red present was? Incense!

Now you pour the second glass and to your surprise the water turns yellow. This yellow water is a symbol for the second present: gold!

And the third present?

Again you pour water in a glass. This time the water turns green: myrrh!

 kettle2

After pouring the water you lift off the lid, reach in and pull out a long (and bone dry) rainbow streamer! This streamer is a demonstration of the celebration in the stable.

kettle3

To create a spectacular moment, take a piece of flash paper and light it! This will create a real flame in the air. The boys especially will love this!

kettle4

327. Following Jesus may cost you everything - part 15 of the Christmas show that you can do!

Tell the Bible story of the three Magi and their expensive presents

You can use this trick in the Christmas magic show when you tell the story of the three wise men (the Magi) spending all their money to buy the most expensive gifts for Jesus.

Link this with the price we may have to pay for following Jesus or you can use this story to teach on worshipping God. What do we offer God when we worship Him?

Paul writes in Romans 12: 1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship."

The trick has a strange name: the Sucker Dice Box. You can buy it here. When you buy the trick, you get a dice.  I have covered the dice with 'gold coins' paper so that it doesn't look like a dice anymore, but like a solid block of gold coins.

Themes:

The three kings, the three wise men, the Magi, the star of Bethlehem, gold incense and myrrh, the price of following Jesus, being a living sacrifice, teaching on worshipping God

Setting:

Christmas service, children's Sunday School, children's ministry, children's moment in church, Messy church, school assemblies, RE lessons, youth work, teenagers, preaching illustration, creative preaching, gospel presentation, small churches

324. Meet the sheep, Rocky the Raccoon and an amazing IKEA frog - part 12 of the Christmas show that you can do!

Create another act to talk about the role of shepherds within Jewish society

In the following act you can combine a few sheep hand puppets with the Rocky the spring puppet and the IKEA frog / prince puppet to talk more about the role of shepherds within the Jewish society and how special it is that God sends his angel to tell them first.

meet the sheep

We made some of these sheep hand puppets ourselves, but you can buy beautiful sheep puppets here.

Rocky the Raccoon is very easy to bring to life, because it is a spring animal. Spring animals are puppets that consist of a large spring covered with fur. You hold the spring raccoon in one hand, moving the head with your thumb and first finger. It gives the animal a very realistic effect, and it's not uncommon for people to mistake it for a live animal!

 meet Rocky

Buy your own spring puppet

There are several places where you can buy your own spring puppet. The English guys from Mission Magic sell them, but you can also buy them on Amazon

If you are looking for the ZigZag trick that we use 'to cut Rocky into three parts' look at this link of Dynamite Magic.

meet the IKEA frog

To finish this act you use the Ikea frog / prince puppet to demonstrate God's powerful love for the shepherds.

Watch the video:

In the video below I will show you how you can use the sheep puppets, Rocky and the frog to create a context for the story of the shepherds.

You can use this act during your Christmas service, school assembly or in your Sunday school lesson.

322. God's love for the Shepherds - part 10 of the Christmas show that you can do!

Any children’s worker can explain God's love for the shepherds and the poor using the Lota Vase

Have you ever heard of a Lota Vase?

This is a fun, easy to do magic trick in which you can pour water again and again from an empty metal vase!

319. Immanuel; the relationship between God and his people will be restored - part 7 of the Christmas show that you can do!

Any children’s worker can explain the reason why Jesus came using the Gospel magic trick of the Dean’s Box

After the birth of Jesus demonstrated through the use of the cut and restore trick you can do a side track and explain the reason for Jesus’ birth.

For this you can use the Dean’s box magic trick. I bought mine very cheaply through Alibaba Express. The only problem was that it didn’t come with any explanation as to how the trick works. If you choose yours through Alibaba Express you can send me an email and I will send you a video in which I explain how the trick works. It looks great and it is very easy to do!

Deans Box2

Ask two children to come forward as volunteers. Give them each a coloured rope to inspect. The yellow rope symbolises God. The red rope symbolises mankind. The red wooden box symbolises the stable.

Explain that when God created us we were connected with Him. You connect the ropes as demonstrated in the video and tell the children that God promised that He would never let go. But we did let go and therefore lost our connection with God.

Then you explain what happened in the manger. God and mankind came back together through the coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus tied a knot between us and God without making a real knot. To demonstrate this you tie the two ropes together in the stable without making a knot.

Amazing!

Deans Box1

You can finish this act by saying that Christmas means that God keeps his promise: I will never let you go.

Make sure your two volunteers get a big round of applause before they leave the stage and you’re ready to go to the third piece of the puzzle.

You can do this too during your Christmas service, school assembly or in your Sunday school lesson

318. Joseph and Mary searching for a place to stay in Bethlehem - part 6 of the Christmas show that you can do!

Any children’s worker can tell this story using the Gospel magic trick of the Joker Tube / Stratosphere

Ask a child to come forward as a volunteer and show him/her the Joker Tube and asks if he knows what order the colours are in a traffic light. Red at the top, yellow in the middle and green at the bottom. The child gives you the coloured balls and you put them in the right order into the tube. Then you start telling the story...

"Joseph and Mary have travelled a long way from Nazareth to Bethlehem. It’s busy. Lots of people have come to register. Joseph looks at Mary. He knows that she can give birth any moment soon. It’s important for him to find an inn where they can stay.

He knocks on the door of the first inn he comes across. “Hello, do you have a place for us to stay for the night?”

You look questioningly at the child and the child says ‘no’. You lift the covering of the tube and the lights are all mixed up.

Magic traffic light1

Joseph is confused. How can this happen? Mary trusted God. He trusted God and now there is no place for them to stay. No place where the son of God can be born? Joseph doesn’t understand. How is this possible?

Take the three balls out of the tube and put them back again in the right order.

Joseph starts to worry a little now. Quickly he rushes to the next inn. He knocks on the door of the second inn. “Hello, my wife is pregnant. Do you have a place for us to stay for the night?”

You look again questioningly at the child and the child says again ‘no’. You lift the covering of the tube and the lights are all mixed up again for the second time.

Joseph starts to panic. How can this happen? Will God desert them? Is God not to be trusted?

Magic traffic light2

Take the three balls out of the tube and this time you put them back again in a different order: yellow first, then red and then lastly green.

Joseph knows he has one more opportunity. The last inn in Bethlehem. He runs as fast as he can and knocks at the door. “Hello, my wife can give birth any moment now. Please, please, do you have a room for us? Have mercy!”

You look questioningly at the child for the last time and the child says ‘no’ for the third time. You lift the covering of the tube and this time there are two red lights in your traffic light and the green light has disappeared. You’ll hear the amazement from your public and you use this amazement to focus on Joseph’s amazement.

How is this possible? Why has God deserted them? Why? It wasn’t easy for Joseph to marry a pregnant Mary. Everyone in the village had spoken of their shame. But he did it, because he trusted God and now this. How can it be?

And then someone, we don’t know who, shows love and compassion to Joseph and Mary. God does care for them. Someone has a place for them in a stable.

You take the three balls out of the tube and this time you put them back again in a different order: In the stable is some straw: the yellow ball. There is a small manger: the red ball and some blankets: another red ball.

That night Joseph and Mary discover that they can trust God. He does take care of them. That the night the traffic light in Bethlehem turns...

You lift the cover away from the tube.

Magic traffic light3

Green!! Green for Joseph and Mary. Green for us all."

Tthank the child who helped you and make sure he/she gets a round of applause. Then go straight into the end of the Cut and Restore trick and ask the girl who took care of your rope and knot to come forward and demonstrate the birth of Jesus Christ this way. Immanuel - God coming down to earth.

To demonstrate this you keep the rope vertical and move your hand down from the top to the bottom. When you reach the knot half way down the rope you move the knot down as you keep talking about God coming down from heaven.

Ask the girl to open her hands and slowly let the knot drop into her hands. Jesus is born in the stable and I ask her to take care of Jesus. She can keep the knot as a symbol of Jesus being born. Before she leaves the stage make sure she gets a around of applause.

You can do this too during your Christmas service, school assembly or in your Sunday school lesson

317. Joseph’s reaction to Mary’s pregnancy - part 5 of the Christmas show that you can do!

You can tell this too story using the Gospel magic trick of the Cut and Restore rope trick

“Joseph, Joseph, I have good news!” Mary comes running into Joseph's work place with a big smile on her face. To demonstrate this you make a smile with your rope. Joseph is curious. Has Mary finally found a wedding dress?

“Joseph, I'm going to have a baby. But it is not yours. It is from God.”

Cut and restore trick

Any smile on Joseph’s face is immediately wiped away. “A child from God. What kind of bad joke is this?” Joseph gets angry, really angry.

That night as Joseph lies tossing and turning in his bed he makes a decision. He is not going to marry Mary. He is going to divorce her. And to demonstrate this you cut your rope in two pieces with a pair of scissors.

But as Joseph is sleeping an angel comes to him in his dream and says: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you shall give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”

The next morning when Joseph wakes up, he does something very brave. He decides to trust the angel, take the suffering and shame upon himself and he ties the knot with Mary. He marries her.

To demonstrate this you tie the two pieces of rope together with a knot and pull on both pieces to get the knot very tight.

cut and restore trick2

Mary has a baby in her tummy. You point to the knot, which has now become a symbol of the unborn child. You ask one of the girls present if they want to take care of Mary and the baby and you give the rope containing the knot to the girl. “Can you hold it with two hands for me please?”

Now you do the following magic trick of the traffic lights to tell the story of Joseph and Mary looking for a place to stay in Bethlehem. Once they found a place in the stable you ask the girl with the rope to come forward and you talk about the miracle of that Christmas night. Not only the miracle of Joseph and Mary finding a place to stay, not only the miracle of Jesus being born. No, the miracle of God Himself who came down from heaven to be one of us and to show us how much He loves us. This is the meaning of Immanuel.

To demonstrate this you keep the rope vertical and move your hand down from the top to the bottom. When you reach the knot half way down the rope you move the knot down as you keep talking about God coming down from heaven.

You ask the girl to open her hands and you slowly let the knot drop in her hands. Jesus is born in the stable and you ask her to take care of Jesus. She may keep the knot as a symbol of Jesus being born. Before she leaves the stage make sure she gets a round of applause.

316. Mary’s meeting with the angel Gabriel - part 4 of the Christmas show that you can do!

You can tell this story too - using the Gospel magic trick of the Bible Colouring Book

During my Christmas show I tell the story of Mary’s meeting with the angel Gabriel. I use the Bible Colouring Book (magic trick) to tell this part of the Christmas story.

"The people of Israel hadn’t heard anything from God for four hundred years.

Magic colouring book empty

To demonstrate this silence you show the colouring book completely empty of any pictures.

Then one day the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary telling her: “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.”

Mary was very shaken by these words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But Gabriel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Magic colouring book black white pictures

To demonstrate the words of the angel to Mary you show the colouring book full of black and white drawings of Jesus’ life.

Mary is confused! “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

Gabriel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

What is Mary going to answer? Is it going to be a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’?

Mary places her trust in the words of the angel and says yes!

Magic colouring book

To demonstrate her answer you show the colouring book full with coloured pictures of the life of Jesus.

But what would have happened if Mary had said no? Jesus would not have been born. There would be no Christmas story and we wouldn’t celebrate Christmas. Life would have been completely different."

To demonstrate this you finish with showing the colouring book totally empty.

You can do this magic trick during your Christmas service, school assembly or in your Sunday school lesson

Watch the demonstration video below.

You can see me doing a full demonstration of this story and magic trick in the video below. The Brittish guys from Mission Magic have made a beautiful Bible Colouring Book. In the video we demonstrate a colouring book with only pictures from the life of Jesus bought through Amazon.com.

314. Your own act about trusting - part 2 of the Christmas show that you can do!

Any children’s worker can do an act on the theme of trust using my idea below.

I have chosen an act for you to do about trust. During my Christmas show the theme of trusting God comes back time and time again. Mary has to trust God in order to become the mother of Jesus. Joseph has to trust God and marries Mary. They both have to trust God to provide a place for them in Bethlehem. The shepherds have to trust the angel as they travel to Bethlehem. The wise men have to trust the star and the angel to bring them to Jesus and  back safely using a different route. Joseph has to trust the angel again when he decides to flee to Egypt.

251. Zacchaeus finds real treasure - the Dice Box

Tell the Bible story of Zacchaeus the tax collector in a new way

Show everyone a solid block of gold coins (this is a large dice that I covered with paper gold coins on it), and a box with two compartments, and doors to each compartment. The solid block of gold coins is placed in one compartment, and the doors are closed. The box is tilted, and your audience hear the block of gold coins slide from one side to the other. So they are not impressed when you open the door to show that the gold has vanished. They ask you to open the other door.

You tilt the box again and open the door. They hear the block again, and even those that missed it the first time are now convinced they have caught you out. Repeat a few more times, milking it for all it's worth.

Finally open both doors, to show that the block of gold coins has indeed vanished.

Teaching children and teenagers about not wearing masks in church

In our daily lives we sometimes have to take on a role to just go through the day and when we want to achieve something. It is very easy to constantly wear a certain mask, so that people like, so that you are safe... Very often we are not even aware anymore of the (many) masks we wear. And then we come to church!

How easy it is to also wear our masks in church. But do we really need them when we are among God's family? Do we dare to open ourselves and our lives for one another?

This is an important question! But how do you raise an issue like this? Well, maybe through the Headless Cartoon silks...

237. No popularity contest within God’s family - the Headless Cartoon silks

Talking with children and teenagers about popularity

Within God's family we (try to) look at people through the eyes of Jesus. In society it sometimes feels so important to be beautifull, athlecic, smart, elegant or funny. But within the church there is no popularity contest. Everybody is allowed to belong. Everybody is loved. You may come as you are.

Through the use of the Headless Cartoon silks you can demonstrate this important truth very easily.

236. The prodigal son’s dreams - the Headless Cartoon silks

Telling the Bible story of the parable of the lost son to children

Day in, day out... It never seems to stop. As the prodigal son is working on his father's farm he is dreaming about the big city with all its enticing things. Who wants to know what the prodigal son is dreaming about? Ask four volunteers to come forward. Each of them chooses a colour: green, yellow, red or blue. According to the colour they choose you give them a headless silk in that colour. Together they demonstrate the prodigal son's dreams. (Luke 15:11-32)
