“This is him! The saviour, the Messiah,” says the shepherd.
Mary sighs again. Her tummy is hurting. She knows that the baby will be coming soon. She puts her hand on her stomach. She can feel the baby moving. She smiles.
She thinks about nine months ago. It feels like it happened yesterday: she was busy cleaning her house, when all of a sudden the angel was standing next to her. She was so shocked!
“Don’t be afraid Mary,” said the angel. “God has chosen you. You are going to have a baby and you must call him Jesus. That means ‘God saves’. The baby is the son of God.”
First of all she didn’t understand how that could happen, because she wasn’t married to Joseph. But when the angel told her that God was going to make the baby grow in her tummy, that God would be the Father, she had understood that she, Mary, was going to be the mother of the Saviour, the Messiah, who had been promised for so long!
How special, what a miracle!
