A refugee experience for the kids in your Sunday school lesson
I have written a series of ideas and activities especially for Micah Sunday, that you can use during your youth ministry or children’s moment in church.
This year the theme of the Micah Sunday is based on a text from Psalm 24: ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.’
It looks at how we as Christians can take care of God's world. What can we do to stop pollution, climate change and all the effects this has on the earth and those living in poverty? For them this means more hunger, conflict and insecurity, and a more uncertain future for us all.
The children are going to experience and think about what it means to be a climate refugee, and the role that we in the west play in it.
What do you need:
- Lego, Duplo, empty toilet rolls or plastic cups
- sweets
- domino blocks
What to do:
Divide the children into groups. Group A goes to sit on the ground at the end of the room. This is the rich, western world. Ask the children in this group to build a factory tower, using Lego, Duplo, empty toilet rolls or plastic cups.
The other two groups B and C sit down at the other end of the room, one on the left and one on the right. Both groups get a hundred domino blocks. They have to place behind one another. Once they are all in line, they all get a sweet.
